Biography

Bedless Bones is Kadri Sammel - vocalist, producer, multi-instrumentalist and artist from Tallinn, Estonia.

With a background of a decade of singing in choirs; studies in cultural theory, audiovisual media and photography; her personal musical style has transformed into solo project Bedless Bones, which experiments with different noir genres; building bridges and bending borders between darkwave, murky EBM & techno beats and industrial sounds and abstract otherworldly atmosphere akin to IDM.
Brought to life through songs that are charged with a multilayered melancholic sound, but also ignite dark dancefloors and evoke familiarity.
Regardless of Bedless Bones' debut in late 2019 and the following situation with Covid restrictions, the band has already played at festivals such as Wave Gotik Treffen (Germany), Cold Hearted Festival (Germany), Castle Party (Poland) and Kalabalik på Tyrolen (Sweden), also Tallinn Music Week; and shared the stage with New Model Army, Sex Gang Children, She Past Away, Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, The Horrorist, Void Ov Voices (Attila Csihar), Lebanon Hanover, Kaelan Mikla and others.
In addition to that, Kadri is a member of Estonian avantgarde deathbeat/outdustrial band Forgotten Sunrise and the singer of up-and-coming UK/Estonian dystopian industrial band Deathsomnia.
Another alias of Kadri is DJ Dirt Vessel: for the last few years she has been a crucial part of Beats From The Vault, an underground dark music event series in Estonia that has been going on since 1998. In her captivating sets lush with solemn atmospheres and a transcendental effect, she plays dark & industrial techno and EBM, but also darkwave and post-punk; and firmly paved her way as an important member of the scene.

BENDING THE IRON BOUGH

My love, let it ruin me.

Ranging over themes of courage, fear, rebirth, growth and sanctity, ‘Bending The Iron Bough’, the second album by Bedless Bones, creates a realm of alternative myth and lore through nine unique songs where cool electronic textures court ethereal ambience. A tenacious explorer and seeker, Bedless Bones has added an electric guitar and various folk and acoustic instruments to her distinct sound palette, which is made complete by her signature dim-toned and airy vocals. Written and recorded in solitude at a remote location in Estonia, the album relies on subtle allusions and insights, reinforcing imagination and creative freedom.

"Bending the Iron Bough is an easy win for Bedless Bones, taking what worked so well in her work up ’til this point and expanding it with vision and confidence. Like so many of the darkwave artists of the last decade who have been redefining the boundaries of that genre, she situates herself ably as voice, body and spirit of her songs, regardless of the individual musical permutations. Bedless Bones is inimitably and unmistakably herself. Recommended."

SUBLIME MALAISE

Sublime Malaise is Bedless Bones' debut album that hurled her to the darkwave scene relying on beautiful synth melodies, harsh industrial beats and unique profound atmospheres.
Sublime Malaise is an exploration of a shifting state; an envisioned departure from ill-being, finding a ground, juxtaposition of vivid abstract sensations and the mundane dullness of existence; the corporeal ailments and the boundless routes of the mind.
It's a nocturnal journey of darkness and light, where relapse, intimidating encounters and self-irony are ever-lurking.
Sonically it carries the spirit of dark wave and cold wave, but also incorporates elements from other genres and contemporary sound design.

"Sublime Malaise, the debut LP from Kadri Sammel as Bedless Bones belongs to the school of aloof, European darkwave. Where records of that genus often walk a line between lush intimacy and steely resolve, the Estonian project resolves the tension between those poles within the LP’s songs, giving the album an energy born from synergy rather than conflict. That unity of mood and execution is Bedless Bones’ biggest strength."
